The government of Brazil is in the process of researching ways to improve their petition system. Officials in the government of Brazil think that the system of petitions is currently not updated and thus is not efficient as it needs to be and needs to be improved.
What are they looking at to implement these improvements?
The second major cryptocurrency on the market, Ethereum and its network. They want to utilize the innovation of Ethereum and its network to clear the numerous votes that will be passing through the system. Conducting it through that of the Blockchain will allow for higher efficiencies and improved experiences across the board.
Petitions in Brazil
Petitions carry significant value in the country of Brazil. The value of the petition came from the idea that one agrees with the need for a change in one matter and would sign to add their name to the petition, thus making it more valuable. The more valuable the petition, judged by the number of names added it to it, the higher chance it has to make a change.
Yet, was happened across the world has been the transition from offline to digital petitions. This helped to increase the ability for leaders to reach people for petitions. But, there was a problem. How would one know for certain that all the names present on the virtual petition was real and wasn’t duplicated several times? Thus, making a petition through the web didn’t have a legal base in the country of Brazil.
There had to be solution, petitions are a primary tool in the country, over one hundred forty million voters come to an agreement on key political decisions, it couldn’t be a tool that could be thrown away, it had to be made better.
Bringing political petitions to the Blockchain
This new research and implementation would help to change that and bring petitions to the new age. The move would allow for minimizations in logistical issues, allowing for people of low income to participate more easily in the political process. The current system poses a lot of barriers to those that must work to live and survive on each paycheck. People of this nature will be able to contribute and give their voices thus, possibly, changing the political landscape going forward.
Implementing the Blockchain based petition system would mean that there would be encryption of the votes on the network of Ethereum, these votes would pass through as transactions, and this way, the votes are accounted for without tampering by any outside parties. Votes are processed through dispassionate, neutral, system.
These votes which will be deployed as transactions will be conducted through the use of smart contract technology, the operation would happen in the form of DAPPS or decentralized applications.
This would lead to a better form of democracy:
“In part this is due to the absence of a platform that can securely collect the signatures of one percent of voters. We’ve been through a sort of crisis regarding the legitimacy…of our laws. Although the popular initiative does exist, there is no secure way to collect people’s signatures so people can propose bills themselves.”
Since this would serve as a decentralization application, users can interact with it, potentially over the mobile phones, thus, making it more convenient and accessible.
