Using the same block-chain based principle as Bitcoin, Ethereum has adapted and developed the idea to create an altogether new technology. It was created to be able to do a lot more than Bitcoin was, put simply, Ethereum is an open source platform based on blockchain technology. Ethereum total supply surpasses 100 million
The total Ether supply has surpassed 100 million. Ether is the currency or ‘fuel’ used to power the Ethereum platform. The total amount of Ether has been rising at around a rate of 10 percent since the genesis block was mined (the block mined).
The genesis block was created in 2015, in which 72 million Ether were minted, 60 million from the pre-sale and 12 million other. This means that in just 3 years over 28 million Ether has been mined, since the launch of the Ethereum network.
The speed at which the total supply of Ether is an ongoing concern for the Ethereum community. Numerous solutions have been suggested, but none of yet been implemented. Vitalik Buterin has suggested capping the total supply of Ether and this may well happen in the near future. Solutions are in the process of being designed so as to reduce the inflation rate of Ether, this is known as the Casper protocol.
94 out of top 100 blockchain projects built on Ethereum
Kevin Rooke, a cryptocurrency researcher and YouTuber, stated that the ethereum network has more than 250,000 developers. Even more impressively, Ethereum currently has 94 out of the top 100 blockchain projects built on the network. This is likely to change in the near future as some projects are migrating to their own blockchain.
The official YouTube video is here
“You simply cannot build excellent applications and products without a big developer base behind you. But today, Ethereum has roughly 250,000 developers building on its platform. The industry is still really small [and thus], 250,000 is a shocking number. Ethereum’s development framework called Truffle already has more than 500,000 downloads and even through the price fall of 2018, development interests have continued to rise”
Female coders in Afghanistan are earning Ethereum
Young women coders in Afghanistan are earning Ether (ETH) for fixing vulnerabilities in businesses and projects.
In a recent interview with CoinDesk, it was revealed that a non profit organisation known as “Code to Inspire”, who are teaching women in Afghanistan to write code, have partnered with ‘the Bounties Network’.
The partnership began in May and is helping to set up the Ethereum essentials for the women including MetaMask and wallets, so the women can complete the bounties and earn Ether. The women can expect to earn somewhere between $10 and $80 per bounty, dependant on the complexity.
Fereshteh Forough, the founder of CTI, told CoinDesk
